The Liberian cargo ship AVON is shown stranded at the Port of Valparaiso, Chile on September 12, 2000 after being caught in a severe storm.
And more information added by Guillermo Raymondi:
The Avon was anchored near the bay of Valparaiso, when after a strong storm of wind and rain that caused a big swell did that the ship began to drag strongly, and finally was adrift, without time to use the engine to maneuver, in her adrift the ship was about to collide with the floating dock Valparaiso III, but she destroyed the fishing harbour of Caleta Portales.
There wasn't oil or fuel spill in this event. The ship got stranded on the beach, where she was inspected, after she was refloated and towed to the dry dock Valparaiso III, where it was verified that the hull structure of the ship were severely damaged and irreparable, she was towed again to a sea pit near Valparaiso where she was sunk after having retired the fuel and the oil.
